Off Season Adventuring

For many people adventuring happens on a seasonal schedule. Perhaps it's school, work or the weather but often some times of year just lend themselves better to certain activities. For myself, college and my ballet rehearsal schedule makes it quite hard to get out much during the school year, however, I've made it my my "post summer resolution" to be more consistent about adventuring, even when it takes a bit more thought and planning to make happen.

I fall all too easily into the trap of only doing big trips and forgetting about all the lovely local single day or overnight adventures. Part of the reason I started this blog is to encourage myself to make adventure more a lifestyle and less of a past time. With our busy lifestyles it's easy to relegate adventure to a seperate part of our lives but I'd encourage you to make it a part of of your every day. Throw your homework in a backpack and set up in that meadow halfway down the trail. You may find the lack of distractions helps you focus. Go for a short hike after work. It'll help you decompress after a hard day. Plan a weekend camping trip for next month, could be a campsite 10 minutes away or even in your back yard. If they outdoors isn't your prefered form of adventuring then go explore a little town or listen to a local band. It's important to get a break from the mundane so go find something interesting to do.
